‘David Lynch: The Art Life’ Trailer: Venice Doc Dissects The Auteur’s Life Through a ‘Private Memoir’
The new documentary will soon bow at the Venice Film Festival.
Jon Nguyen’s intimate look at American original (and one of Hollywood’s last true auteurs), the incomparable David Lynch, promises to take its audience inside Lynch’s world in never-before-seen fashion.
Despite its title, Nguyen’s new documentary, “David Lynch: The Art Life,” isn’t solely focused on Lynch’s artistic pursuits — both behind the camera and in front of the canvas — it also explores Lynch’s early life and his various motivations for his various activities, all bundled up in his intense need to credit.
Nguyen and his team were granted unprecedented access to Lynch and his family to make the film (billed as a “private memoir,” if you’ve any doubt just how personal this project goes), and first started shooting in 2012 (incidentally, when Lynch’s youngest daughter, to whom the film is dedicated, was born), and the result appears to be a very personal and deeply rewarding look at Lynch and his world.
